SUMMARY:The Marbles + Discussion with Professor Dan Hicks
DESCRIPTION:THE MARBLES is a compelling new documentary examining one of history’s most controversial cultural disputes—the removal of the Parthenon Marbles—and the ongoing campaign to return them to Greece. From imperial acquisition to modern-day advocacy\, this is the story of heritage\, identity\, and justice. \nProfessor Dan Hicks is Professor of Contemporary Archaeology at the University of Oxford\, Curator at the Pitt Rivers Museum. For over thirty years Dan has researched the material and visual culture of the human past\, up to and including the modern\, colonial\, contemporary and digital worlds His work operates across the “four As”: Archaeology\, Anthropology Art\, and Architecture. Author of nine books\, including The Brutish Museums and Every Monument Will Fall. We are honoured to have him discussing the subject of the film; the heated discussion of decolonising our museums and the call to give Greece back The Parthenon Marbles. \nThis thoughtful documentary\, filmed over five years starting on the 200th anniversary of Greek independence\, reveals the complexities of museum ethics\, cultural policy\, and the competing claims surrounding ancient artefacts. From Athens to London\, it’s a tale of empire\, resistance\, and redemption—with Scotland emerging as an unlikely hero. \nThe debate continues to evolve\, raising fundamental questions about the rightful ownership of ancient treasures. The question isn’t just about marble sculptures—it’s about how we value and preserve cultural heritage. \nThis event is a film screening\, discussion and book signing.\nDetails about book sales will be online shortly.

SUMMARY:Clevedon Sprint Triathlon 2026
DESCRIPTION:Channel Events are super excited to be back again in 2026\, bringing you the Clevedon Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 19th July! \nLast year was the inaugural event and the feedback was fantastic (except the weather which we couldn’t control) so we’re really looking forward to delivering the second edition in 2026. \nIn 2024 we were handed the baton for the Clevedon SwimRun which was a huge success so in 2026 we developed the Clevedon Swim\, Bike and Run Festival with the SwimRun on the Saturday (after Parkrun) and then the triathlon on the Sunday! We’re striving to cement this as an amazing celebration weekend of swim\, bike\, run going forward and we want you to be a bug part of that focus! \nThe Triathlon will utilise the magnificent Marine Lake where a 750m open water swim will start off the event in the safety of the lake with a backdrop of the glorious Victorian Clevedon Pier. The bike route is fast and undulating with a loop towards the village of Portishead and back on some stunning roads with sea views across the channel to Wales. Finally\, you’ll take on the 5km run route. A mix of flat paved seafront promenade and scenic trails around Poets Walk and Wains Hill (2 laps)before you return to the Salthouse Fields to finish with your arms aloft\, smiling for the camera as you cross the finish line! \nAs with our Minehead Triathlon\, we are giving people the option to complete the Clevedon Triathlon without receiving a medal the end of the event. You may however\, purchase them at the additional price of £7.00 per person. As behind the scenes costs increase\, this not only helps us to keep the entry price down but also allows us to be more environmentally sound for those who loved doing the event\, but didn’t want a physical memento at the end. The last date you will be able to purchase medals will be one week prior to the event. We’d obviously love you to enter much earlier than this to make sure the event is viable! \nPlease note: if you are entering as a relay team\, medals will need to be purchased for each team member. \nSound good? \nEntries open on the 1st February 2026 and your early support helps us deliver on our social enterprise aims.
